Every year on February the 14th school kids exchange friendly valentines cards, teenagers blush when confessing to their love interest and adults go nuts trying to find a table for two.
We came up with a style shoot theme for Valentines with a good friend and talented Make-up Artist, Jeis Coco. This year we wanted to try something a little different and meaningful rather than just a couples shoot. We wanted the images to really mean something to someone.
Leading up to this style shoot we were looking for models to work with for the shoot and we ended up thinking of Alexa and Josh. They haven’t yet had a couples shoot so we thought this would be the perfect opportunity!
Alexa (Lex) and Josh also good friends of ours. We’ve known Josh for several years now from when he first entered into the wedding industry to becoming a father and now together with Lex, have started their own wedding company as well as a rising You Tube channel that documents their adventure as a young family of three. They have the cutest, darling little girl.
We decided on this beautiful venue the Loft Garden Oasis in Vancouver. We loved the loft style and the amazing decor that the venue offered. It fit our lifestyle theme perfectly.
Although we know them well, we’ve never had the opportunity to really do a proper photo session with either of them so we weren’t entirely sure what to expect, but as you can see from the photos they really got into the mood and played so well for our cameras. We loved their chemistry and how they were so completely comfortable with each other even in front of the camera. They are such a sweet and charming couple. When we directed some more intimate shots we couldn’t help but notice how Lex would gaze into Josh’s eyes. Is this the “look of love” Diana Krall sings of?
It was a truly enjoyable shoot for us pretty much from the start once we’d all warmed up. It was nice to do the shoot in a home like setting and really had everyone feeling very relaxed. The day went by so quickly, like they say “time flies”. We had so many great shots we happily settled down and just spent the remainder of the session relaxing while reviewing photos.
Valentines day is always a great time for couples to be a little nicer, walk a little closer and just enjoy and celebrate the qualities we hold so dear in each other. Yes, businesses love valentines day and it’s become so commercial, but we think it’s a great thing and adds a little spice to our daily lives. How are you spending your Valentines day?
